5 Reasons Why You Need To Monitor Your Kids Online

There are so many good points about the internet that we sometimes forget about the darker side of things, especially when our kids are concerned. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of why they need our protection. Sure, they may seem very street smart and certainly know their way around the World Wide Web, but they still remain kids. Let’s take a little look at some of the reasons why we need to maintain our monitoring habits regarding our little angels.

At Risk

As long as our kids have a cyber-presence, they are at risk from predators and bullies. This risk is increased if they give out vital information regarding their personal details. The net is still full of potentially dangerous people who have zero ethical beliefs and can easily make our kids’ lives hell.

No matter how fed up they get of us telling them, our kids need to understand how dangerous it can be to give out personal details. But, unfortunately there are still way too many items of personal information whizzing their way around the internet. There are gangs of paedophiles who have nothing better to do than look at random children’s’ profile looking for their next victims.

Viruses

It is so easy for us to accidently open up a dodgy email that results in a hard drive being infected. And our kids are just as likely to fall into this trap as they blitz their way through spoof gaming sites and dodgy email offers. Once a Trojan has set up camp in our hard drive, our bank details become compromised. Our children have little idea of how dangerous such an issue can be and they really should be educated. You can block a lot of these sites off but eventually a determined kid will find a way through.  Endure that your firewall system is up and running and hopefully you will stop these horrors from getting through.

Scams

Credit card scams are rife nowadays and the internet is probably the worst place for them. If you have teenagers who like online shopping, it is very tempting for them to just ‘borrow’ our credit card details for a quick purchase. As well as losing the funds for this item, they are possibly compromising our entire credit balance on the card. It can be incredibly difficult to spot the genuine websites from the fake ones. Keep your cards safe and your pin numbers even safer!

Stalking

Our kids may be amongst friends when online, but some of these buddies are wolves in sheep’s clothing. What often starts as a prank can lead to years of misery and suffering for kids who are bullied. Children are sensitive and never enjoy being singled out for punishment. Because parents are seldom aware of these chat rooms, that are the usual sort for bullying, the insults and intimidation can go on, undetected.
